Cementing her reputation as one of the busiest young actresses around, uber-teen Lindsay Lohan returned to the screen just weeks after starring in Confessions Of A Teenage Drama Queen, with this better-than-average high school romp.
Pitched somewhere between Heathers and Clueless, it may contain all the usual cliches of the teen movie - overwrought party scenes, awkward adolescent romance and the pressures of fitting in at school - but the sharp script (from Saturday Night Live alumni Tina Fey – who also takes the role of maths teacher here) renders it far funnier and edgier than many of its peers.
Lohan is appealing and likeable and there’s equal fun to be had watching rising star McAdams as the splendidly evil Regina, Tim Meadows as the perpetually bemused school principal and Amanda Seyfried as a pathologically dim Plastic.
